Worldwind Virtual Book Tours Book Review: "Overcoming Anxiety"

Today I wanted to tell you guys about an incredible book that I just recently finished reading!! *jumps up and down with excitement*

"Overcoming Anxiety" by Psychologist David Bernt, PhD. is smart, well-written, and (probably most importantly!) life-changing. No really, it is life-changing. In his book, Dr. Bernt gives multiple exercises  that help to slow down breathing whether you're simply anxious or suffering (aka ya feel like you're dying, lemme tell ya) during a panic attack, talks about different types of strategies on how to cope with post-traumatic stress disorder/ bad flashbacks/ nightmares, and explains how to train your brain to stop thinking negative or otherwise distressing thoughts by going into depth about ways to break that vicious pattern of thinking, among other topics! This book is truly an incredible resource and far more helpful than I even could have begun to hope for!

I also personally think that this book could probably do wonders for people who are battling depression, even without much anxiety present! I felt myself shocked at how many times I did not realize that certain thoughts I have need be rerouted so I can be kinder and gentler to myself, rather than perfectionistic in a harmfully inflexible way!

Here is the Synopsis:

"Psychologist David Berndt, Ph.D., in Overcoming Anxiety, outlines several self-help methods for relief from anxiety and worry. In clear language and a conversational style, Dr. Berndt talks intimately with the reader like he would in a therapy session, and he shares what he learned from his peers and clients about how to make techniques for anxiety management more effective and helpful.

You will learn:
  • A Self-hypnosis grounding technique in the Ericksonian tradition.
  • Box Breathing, Seven Eleven and similar breathing techniques for anxiety relief.
  • How to stop or interrupt toxic thoughts that keep you locked in anxiety.
  • How to harness and utilize your worries, so they work for you.
  • Relief from anxiety through desensitization and exposure therapy.
Designed to be used alone as self-help or in conjunction with professional treatment Dr. Berndt draws upon his experience as a clinician and academic researcher to give accessible help to the reader who wants to understand and manage their anxiety."
