5 Favorite Ice Cream Shops in Southeastern CT

It's definitely that time of year again, friends... ICE CREAMMMMM! <--- to be screamed, hence the capital letters ;) ahaha! Whether you're planning a trip to come visit Southeastern CT or if you already live around here and just want to play tourist in your own neighborhood, check out my five favorite picks to get your ice cream fix:

1. South Lyme Scoop Shop (South Lyme, CT)
*via

By far, the flavors offered here are the most vibrant and the texture is legit #flawless. Like, I mean...it woke up like this. There isn't any outdoor seating at this location, so if you're up for a rural scenic drive, I definitely recommend visiting the original Salem Valley Farms (Salem, CT) which is the ethereal  amazing ice cream provider for SL Scoop Shop! There are picnic benches situated on the property which is great for everything from family fun to catching up with old friends to going on a promising first date! *wiggles eyebrows knowingly* Dairy-Free options are offered for those who prefer their frozen treats to say "see ya, never!" to the lactose.

2. Old Lyme Ice Cream Shoppe (Old Lyme, CT)
*via

Under new management, the Old Lyme Ice Cream Shoppe seems to be less crowded than it once was… but certainly no less delicious! *casually starts drooling on the keyboard as I type this post* My personal favorite is the plain chocolate with chocolate sprinkles (b/c chocolate is bae) but the Maine Blueberry (as well as other various fruit flavors offered, on that note) is really good!

3. Ice Cream & Gift Shop at Bill's Seafood (Westbrook, CT)
*via

Come for the seafood, stay for the ice cream?! Here's lookin' at you, fish 'n' chips<33… but Bill's Seafood also serves Ashely's Ice Cream, which anyone from New Haven County (particularly Madison, Guilford, or New Haven) knows is synonymous with the phrase "heaven in a cone". The good news? Any flavor you get, you can rest assured that you've made a good choice.

4. A.C. Petersen Farms Drive-In (Old Lyme, CT)
*via

From Grasshopper (for the flavor-illiterate, it's basically mint-Oreo…no bugs here!; A.C. Petersen's version thankfully doesn't include the waxy, faux-fudge ripple in it, unlike many other shops) to low-fat Black Raspberry Chocolate Chunk, there's a flavor for everyone here. Whenever I get ice cream here, it tends to melt pretty fast for some reason (~calling all chemistry enthusiasts~), so I recommend getting an extra cup even if you're ordering a cone!

5. Frosty Treat (Niantic, CT)
*via
For all the soft-serve lovers out there, this one's for you! Although they also sell Hershey's Ice Cream (!!!), the soft-serve is definitely my go-to here. The texture is uber-creamy and just perfect in every way so you'll barely notice that you won't be able to discern what flavor it is (the chocolate doesn't exactly have a, well… distinct... cocoa flavor necessarily) but it's still amazing - trust me on this, considering it still made this list! +5 bonus points to you if you make the smart decision and get the chocolate dip coating!

Where do you go for ice cream?
xoxo, Brooke

  7. I'm definitely saving this...I live in southwestern CT so next time I'm driving through one of these towns, I'll have to check these out! :) Good thing our state is small so it won't take too long to get to any of these!
